Why You Should Get Involved
To help bring global change for underprivileged, marginalized girls and women worldwide. In countries like Liberia, girls and women face severe barriers to health, education, and economic stability. Despite improvements, access to healthcare remains a major issue, especially in rural areas, where over half of households must walk more than an hour to reach the nearest facility. Many families face financial hardship, with only 39% of those in need receiving care when needed. This gap in access can lead to life-threatening consequences, particularly for adolescent girls, who account for 14% of maternal deaths in the country.
Early childbearing is a pressing issue, with 34% of women having given birth before age 18. Awareness programs offered by Girl Uplift, in collaboration with other organizations, play a vital role in educating girls on reproductive health, proper hygiene, and menstrual care, empowering them with knowledge that can help prevent disease and reduce adolescent pregnancies.
Additionally, Girl Uplift incorporates STEM-based games that build leadership, critical thinking, and communication skills in a fun and interactive way. These games help girls face challenges, foster relationships, and develop confidence, ultimately boosting self-esteem.
